Softball Families,

Softball season is just around the corner, so we’re dropping you a quick note regarding what to expect for the upcoming season, and to get the word out about some new things happening within our club.

The web site is up and running, and it includes basic information about our club, as well as printable forms, announcements and key date information.  In particular if you are interested in trying out for a B level league team the date and times for any tryouts will be posted on the website.  For 2012 we know that there will be a 12U B League team and tryouts will most likely be in January.  Watch the website -  www.hvsoftball.org

HVSA participates in ASA Softball, which has the following levels, based upon the player’s age: 

A child who is advanced for her age may elect to play up one level, but no one is allowed to play down a level.  The only exception is the gray area between T-Ball and 8U.  The recommended ages for T-Ball are 5 & 6, but there is leeway, so please give us a call if you are uncertain.

HVSA 2012 Registration Forms will be posted to the website in December and registration will close February 7th, 2012.  Teams should be assigned no later than March 1^st, and practices will begin after spring break.  Registration refunds will not be granted after February 15^th.  Please make sure that your email address/contact information on your registration form is accurate, so that we can get information/reminders out to you, as well as for your coach to be able to contact you.

Uniforms will be ordered through Asphalt Jungle in Clackamas.  Please visit the store with your softball player to try on the jersey and place your order.  The initial uniform cost is included in your registration (jersey & visor), but if a replacement is required for improper fit you will need to re-order at your own expense.  Asphalt Jungle is located at 14634 SE Sunnyside Rd, and their phone number is 503-558-8555.  Uniform Order Forms will be available at Asphalt Jungle beginning December 15^th.  They will also have black shorts and softball pants available for you to order, should your team decide on the additional cost.

Coaches are always needed, but we are also looking for additional volunteers to help with some “behind the scenes” activities.  Some specific areas we can use your help are:

• Registration of Coaches - Collecting pictures, background check paperwork, etc.
• Concession Stand Coordinator & Volunteers - Concessions at NCP help to pay for our field use – we have the responsibility of manning the stand approximately 10x during the season.
• Field Preparation Coordinator:  Early spring – organize getting the fields Mt. Scott Elementary fields playable prior to the season.
• Field Maintenance Coordinator:  In season – dragging fields before home games, keeping up playable condition of the fields at Mt. Scott Elementary.
• HVSA Season Kickoff Event:  Field day for all HVSA teams, mid to late April.  Team pictures and Jamboree style games for the teams.
